This is mostly found in men. When hair loss is severe, a large amount of hair is lost which results in baldness in some men. It however is normal to lose hair on a daily basis.
For women, it is usually after their pregnancy that they lose most of their hair.
When a person undergoes a stressful period, there is a chance that the amount of hair lost increases. However, as soon as that period of stress passes, the amount of hair lost is reduced.
The human hair undergoes three stages. In the first stage known as the anagen phase, the hair grows as we know it. After this stage, a transition stage also called catagen phase is reached. During this stage, the hair no longer grows but increases its terminal fibre. This leads to the final stage when the hair falls off. This last stage is known as the telogen phase.
WHAT AMOUNT IS NORMAL
Each hair on the human head has its own cycle period which is why not all the hair on the human head falls off at the same time. it is normal to lose between 50 to 100 hairs on a daily basis.
